(EN) alla deriva explores three different ideas: the
aesthetic consequences of subjectivity in sonification
processes, the concept of "Dérive" by Guy Debord and the
translation of a real-physical space into a musical structure.
The sonified data is collected by a walker (myself) in a walk
through a city, a "deriva" of one hour in Venice. A tracking
app in my smartphone records my walk. I have developed this
sonification process in a previous piece titled dérive (2017)
for string quartet and live electronics, for which I used the
data collected in an hour-long walk in Berlin. In this project
for Venice, I am interested in the different consequences that
this process has in a rhizomatic urbanism of the Middle Ages.
In alla deriva through the decisions and itinerary of the
walker, in what can be seen as an auto-ethnographic research,
different political and social aspects of the city are made
explicit: how the public spaces and the urban architecture are
managed and traced, how hetero-patriarchic and capitalist
ideologies are reflected in the urban architecture and in its
uses. It can also show for which uses and for whom the city is
created: for tourism, for citizens, for shopping, for resting
or contemplation, for meeting, for which gender, age or
socioeconomic group, as well as the new subversive uses of the
spaces that people create by themselves. The city of Venice is
a heterogeneous, complex place with many frictions and
contradictions and with a very specific and particular
topography and idiosyncrasy that are audible in the piece alla
deriva from a subjective perspective.
Struktur erforscht. Die sonifizierten Daten werden von einer
Spaziergängerin (ich selbst) in einer Stadtwanderung, einem
„deriva“ von einer Stunde in Venedig erhoben. Eine
Tracking-App in meinem Smartphone zeichnet meine Wanderung
sozusagen auto-ethnografischen Feldforschung treten
welcher gesellschaftlicher Gruppen: welches Geschlechts,
